Lauren Abbitt East Lake High School, Tarpon Springs, FL. Class of 2019. Instrument: Clarinet, Director: Ian Black. Lauren has served as principal clarinet of the East Lake High School Wind Ensemble, and led the Woodwind Choir to State MPA for the first time in several years. She served as Band President in her senior year. Lauren graduated summa cum laude, and will major in Engineering at the University of Central Florida.

Mackenzie Adams Kent Island High School, Stevensville, MD. Class of 2019. Instrument: Percussion, Director: Kim Mogensen. Mackenzie has dedicated a significant amount of time at Kent Island High School as a member of several ensembles: Marching Band, Pit Orchestra, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Band. She actively seeks to improve her musicianship by taking double band classes and Music Appreciation. She has established a high bar of leadership and musical excellence for future Kent Island High School generations.

Taylor Akin Washington High School, Washington, OK. Class of 2019. Instrument: Bassoon, Director: Jordan Ford. Three year OKMEA All-State bassoonist, two year OKMEA All-State principal bassoonist. Taylor has also had the opportunity of playing at many different places including, Carnegie Hall, The Jacob's School of Music at Indiana University, Tanglewood Institute at Boston University, and the Advanced Double Reed Institute at Pepperdine University. He has also been featured as a guest performer with the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra, Oklahoma City Symphonic Band, as well as his own Washington High School Band.

Nura is a dedicated and talented musician who always takes the time to help make the band better in every way she can. His skills extend beyond saxophone to include leadership and welding. He is a role model for those below him and is looking forward to being a positive role model for years to come.

Srivi Balaji Meridian World School, Round Rock, TX. Class of 2022. Instrument: Percussion, Director: David Cross. Srivi is an amazing percussionist and gifted leader. Her talents have made the entire band better.

Jacob Ball Providence School, Jacksonville, FA. Class of 2020. Instrument: Percussion, Director: Jonathan Maerkl. Jacob had the tenacity to join band his 10th grade year with no previous experience, but he was up to the challenge. God made Jacob with a quiet strength and he chose to serve Him through his work in the Providence Band. His effort was blessed and he excelled quickly.

William Allen Ball Patrician Academy, Butler, AL. Class of 2019. Instrument: French Horn, Director: Charles Ball. William is an outstanding musician, leader, and mentor for our band program. He attended many band clinics in the state of Mississippi and Alabama throughout the course of high school and is respected by his peers as well as many directors. He is member of HOBY Mississippi, Beta Club, and National Honors Society. William plans to major in Aero Space Engineering.

Megan Barrera Calallen High School, Corpus Christi, TX. Class of 2019. Instrument: Percussion, Director: Jeffery Valperts. Megan Barrera has been an outstanding student in our program at Calallen High School. She served as Band President and section leader of our championship percussion section. Megan is planning on continuing in music at the University level.

Maggie Bashore Underwood High School, Underwood, IA. Class of 2019. Instrument: Trombone, Director: Stephen F Moore. Maggie is an exceptional student involved in Show Choir, Concert Choir, Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Band, multiple small ensembles, NHS, and Student Government.

Joseph Benitez Holy Cross Catholic Academy, Amarillo, TX. Class of 2019. Instrument: Alto Saxophone, Director: Emily Grandmaison. Joseph, an accomplished saxophonist and jazz musician, is recognized for his time and talent in the Band Program. He has successfully completed all seven years and setting the standard for excellence in solo and ensemble performance. His leadership abilities have guided his classmates and younger band students to reach their full potential. Joseph is the 2nd recipient in his family to earn this honor. 

Christina Belford Linden Kildare High School, Linden , Texas. Class of 2019. Instrument: Clarinet and Contra-Bass Clarinet, Director: Ron Williams. Christina is a 7 year band student that will be going onto college to play in the Southern Arkansas University Band and majoring in Elementary Education.

Jake Bell Mount Paran Christian School, Kennesaw, GA. Class of 2019. Instrument: Trumpet, Director: Billy Flood. Jake has played trumpet for eight years and has studied privately under David Klausman. In high school, he was a member of the concert band (principal), marching band (brass captain), basketball drumline, brass ensemble, and jazz ensemble. He enjoys serving with his local church orchestra and through musical outreach within the community. He is a member of Tri-M (president) and has participated in GMEA District 12 Honor Bands. He is a talented trumpet player, music arranger, and filmmaker.

Playing flute and piccolo in our concert, pep, and jazz bands, Emily has been integral to the growth of our program. Emily has also participated in our theater program, taking leading roles in multiple productions every year.

Kendal Blumenthal Seckman High School, Arnold, MO. Class of 2019. Instrument: Alto Saxophone, Director: Benjamin A Middleton. Kendal graduates as possibly the most successful saxophonists in the history of Missouri. She earned 9 selections to All-State concert and jazz ensembles, over a dozen District/State Exemplary ratings as a solo/ensemble performer, and selection to the NAfME All-National Band.

Britney Nicole Bonner Patrician Academy, Butler, AL. Class of 2019. Instrument: Clarinet, Director: Charles Ball. Britney is a tremendous student leader. She served as color guard captain, principle clarinet in the wind ensemble and mentor too many band students. She is a member of Beta Club, National Honors Society, and Valedictorian of her graduating class.

Ashley Booth St. Augustine High School, St. Augustine, FL. Class of 2019. Instrument: Clarinet, Director: Wes Peters. Ashley has served as principal clarinet of the St. Augustine High School Symphonic Winds, and earned a Superior at State MPA. She served as Band Captain and Head Drum Major in her senior year as well as Drum Major during her Junior Year. She will be attending college at the University of Florida.

Madison Bosak Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Public Schools, Sumner, Nebraska. Class of 2020. Instrument: Trumpet, French Horn, and Bass Guitar, Director: Justin Bosak. Madison Bosak is a multi-talented singer and instrumentalist at our school. She plays multiple instruments and aspires to become a professional musician.

Marissa Breinich Galion High School, Galion, OH. Class of 2019. Instrument: Oboe, Director: Jessica L. Hammond. An oboist, mellophone, and trumpet player, Marissa was an integral part of Marching, Symphonic, and Jazz Bands. She served the role of band president her senior year.

Katherine Brusoe Douglas County High School, Castle Rock, Colorado. Class of 2019. Instrument: Flute, Director: Chet Aliga. Katherine led the husky marching band to state in 2018 as their drum major, was first flute and piccolo in her senior musical The Little Mermaid, and first flute in jazz band. She participated in pep band and the winter percussion ensemble.

She dedicates time to practicing and is a leader in our school, participating in jazz band, concert band, solo ensemble, and various honor bands all four years of high school. She also received the "Outstanding Performance Award" at 1A Solo Ensemble her senior year and is pursuing a degree, possibly music education, from the University of Iowa after graduation.

Ethan Burch Sheets Memorial Christian School, Lexington, NC. Class of 2020. Instrument: Trombone, Director: Paul R. Sprouse. Ethan Burch is a founding member of the Screamin' Eagles Band that started in 2013 at Sheets Memorial Christian School. Since then, he has been a cornerstone in the lower brass section while displaying a high work ethic and a disciplined approach to learning.

Joshua Cameron excels in all areas of percussion: mallets, snare, timpani and especially drum set. He is active in concert, marching, jazz & pep bands and serves as a respected leader in all. Anna Caraveo Mile High Academy, Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Class of 2020. Instrument: Bassoon, Director: Esther E Avilés. Anna Caraveo is a very talented bassoonist who has been playing since the 5th grade. Anna is currently a Junior and is part of our school's Concert Band, and is also the principal bassoonist for the Colorado Honor Band. She has worked very hard and deserves this award!! :)

Kendall Carnes Argos Community Schools, Argos, IN. Class of 2019. Instrument: Flute/Drum Major, Director: Austin Mills. Kendall Carnes is an outstanding student and flautist. She has continued to impress with her work ethic and leadership skills, both as a player and as the drum major of the marching band.

Kathleen Carpenter Archbishop John Carroll High School, Radnor, PA. Class of 2019. Instrument: Bb Clarinet, Director: Zach Larimer. Four-year All-Catholic Band 1st chair clarinet. Region VI Band 2019. Kathleen was an extremely dedicated musician - serving various events and ensembles during and after school hours her four years. She served as Tri-M President and Band Secretary.

Luke Carter Wentzville Liberty High School, Lake Saint Louis, MO. Class of 2019. Instrument: Baritone, Director: Sarita Magno-Parsons. Two-year Drum Major of the Wentzville Liberty marching band. Received top ratings at District Music Festival, advancing to State with his baritone solo. Also was a member of the Jazz Band on guitar.

Dante Catalasan Laguna Hills High School, Laguna Hills, CA. Class of 2019. Instrument: Trombone, Director: Denny Bui. Dante was involved in marching band, drum line, wind ensemble, full orchestra, jazz band, pep band, and TRI-M. Outside of school Dante also participated in extra-curricular music-related activities playing trombone in the Four Seasons Youth Orchestra and marching euphonium in Pacific Crest's 2018 production. After returning from marching DCI with Pacific Crest, Dante assumed the role of drum major for the marching band season and returned to the role of drum line captain.

Jordan Chase Housel McKenzie County Public School District, Watford City, ND. Class of 2019. Instrument: Alto Saxophone, Director: Michael Housel. Jordan received multiple *star ratings in North Dakota competitions all four years of High School. He played 1st chair in the ND Allstate Jazz Band in 2018 and 2019. He now plays for the ND National Guard band as a saxophone player.

Recieved 1st division ratings at the MSBOA Solo and Ensemble Festival with a sax quartet and a bassoon solo. Plans on studying secondary education.

Jordan Chenault Maypearl High School, Maypearl, TX. Class of 2019. Instrument: Clarinet, Director: Dallas Dees. Jordan Chenault was one of the two drum majors her senior year, having served previously as Woodwind Captain. She advanced to the 3A All-State Band on Clarinet, the first woodwind student to do so in the school's history. She also advanced to the Texas State Solo-Ensemble Competition multiple years.

Michael Cherroni Los Banos High School, Los Banos, CA. Class of 2019. Instrument: Alto Saxophone, Director: Danielle Cavazos. Michael is a very strong leader and musician. He is lead saxophone in band, and front ensemble leader for winter percussion. He is incredibly reliable, dedicated, and hard working.

She was the marching band drum line captain/section leader, the section leader for the concert band percussion section, and possesses an incredible ability to motivate, teach and direct others in her section. Jacie Gray Scurry-Rosser High School, Scurry, TX. Class of 2021. Instrument: Oboe/Flute/Alto Saxophone, Director: David Trewitt. Jacie Gray is a fantastic person, student, and musician. She is an excellent Oboe player, earning All-Region Honors in her ATSSB (Association of Texas Small School Bands) Region (3), and earning a place at the Area audition in 2018. She also advanced to the prestigious Texas UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest in 2019 on a Grade I Oboe Solo.

Kyle Gray Paradise Valley High School, Phoenix, AZ. Class of 2019. Instrument: Percussion, Director: Ryan Diefenderfer. If I had to give an award for “most improved musician” over the course of four years, it would be without a question to Kyle Gray. Kyle could always be seen in a practice room—either practicing, or watching videos on how to improve, at the variety of percussion instruments that they play. During recruitment trips to middle schools, Kyle was incredibly kind to middle schoolers, greeting them at the door and saying “have a nice day” to every single student. The level of detail and thoroughness that Kyle covered when leading sectionals—in the most polite and considerate way—was nothing short of inspirational.

Melanie Green Chilton County High School, Clanton, AL. Class of 2019. Instrument: Clarinet, Director: Ashlee Steinman. Melanie was one of those students who every director wishes they could have a band room full of. Not only was she an amazingly talented clarinetist, but she also excelled at being drum major, band captain, woodwind captain, and just an overall very driven and hard working student in and out of the classroom.

Paige Greenia Missisquoi Valley Union High School, Swanton, VT. Class of 2019. Instrument: Clarinet, Trombone, Director: Aaron Garceau. Paige is a dedicated, motivated student who has been a member of the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and Pit Orchestra. While her main instrument is clarinet she took up the trombone helping out in a weak section of the band while still mastering her clarinet upon which she qualified and participated in our All State Music Festival, All New England Music Festival and Vermont Youth Orchestra for her entire high school tenure. Though she elected to enroll in the early college program she continued to come into the school and play with both high school bands on trombone whilst attending and applying to colleges in order to study music.

Jordy has no equal when it comes to his playing ability, his expansive improvisational vocabulary and his mature approach to daily rehearsal. His deep understanding of theory, both in practical application and in his numerous original compositions is obvious. As a Freshman he was an extremely strong player, and through non-stop hard work, dedication, and goal oriented focus I have seen major strides with each passing year. This outstanding musician served as the inaugural graduate from the Nashville Symphony's 'Accelerado' Program. This program is Nashville Symphony's initiative to create an intensive music education program designed to prepare gifted young students of diverse ethnic backgrounds for pursuing music at the collegiate level and beyond. Aalia's numerous trips to honor bands, complemented by a first-ever trip to see the Nashville Symphony at the age of 12, put into action what culminated as a post-secondary career studying music at the prestigious Northwestern University.

Corbin Kohtz Thunderbird High School, Phoenix, AZ. Class of 2019. Instrument: Horn, Director: Gordon Williford. Corbin was a four year All-Region member and three year All-State member. His highest placement was second in the state. He was also a member of the Phoenix Symphony Youth Orchestra from Jr. High through High School. Additionally Corbin would play trumpet in his high school jazz ensemble. Corbin received a full scholarship to Arizona State University.

Ben is a genuine leader who is respected by his peers and he inspires them to do their best. He is dependable, respectful, and a hard worker who always has a positive attitude. Ben is a 4-time TAPPS All-State Band member and a gifted trombonist.

Braden Kopren Bison High School, Bison, SD. Class of 2020. Instrument: Guitar, Director: Bridget Vanderpool. Braden has been playing guitar for 12 years now, he plays at various events around our community. He played 5 songs by the Beatles for out last spring concert for our younger grades.

Katarina was a huge part of the band program throughout her high school career. Abigail joined our school in 9th grade and hadn't played the clarinet since 5th grade. She stayed after school and practiced really hard until she caught up. Throughout her years at Cotopaxi, she was selected to the Southern Colorado Honor Band 3 times, and consistently received 1st division ratings at Solo & Ensemble. She is our 1st chair player, and is always happy and fun to be around. She is an amazing leader!!

Casey Melton Fayette Academy, Somerville, TN. Class of 2019. Instrument: Flute, Director: Hunter Farley. Casey in her time at Fayette Academy performed in the Fayette Academy Wind Ensemble as Principal Flute as well as served as the Horn Sargent for the 2018-2019 Viking Marching Band. Casey also performed in many honor bands around the TN area. In addition, Casey was chosen to perform with the WTSBOA All West band and perform at the Cannon Center in downtown Memphis.

Nicholas Mendlik Hickory Grove Christian School, Charlotte, NC. Class of 2019. Instrument: trombone, Director: LaNette Crowe. Nicholas is a very accomplished musician. He plays trombone, percussion, bass guitar, double bass and acoustic guitar. Throughout his career in high school, he has been a leader in concert band, jazz band and drum line. He has participated in several invitational honor band clinics within the state. He is a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, National Honor Society and Thespian Society. Nicholas is going to attend the University of North Carolina in Charlotte and major in Engineering.

David is a leader in our band program and has been first chair clarinet for the past three years. He has been and all conference musician each of the last three years, and was all state this year. He plans to be involved in several collegiate ensembles this fall.

Braxton Michel Brusly High School, Brusly, LA. Class of 2019. Instrument: Tenor Saxophone, Director: Alyxis Mayeaux. Braxton entered the BHS music program as a junior and quickly became an integral member. He was always putting in extra minutes (sometimes hour) of practice and was a quality musician. He was able to juggle both band and boy scouts and eventually became and eagle scout, while also maintaining his leadership position within the band.

Katie Miranda Albany High School, Albany, LA. Class of 2019. Instrument: basoon, flute, piccalo, Director: Amy Elmore. She has been playing the piano for nine years, with 8 of them under the instruction of Dr. Irina Cunev in addition to playing bassoon for 4 years under Dr. Jerry Voorhees. Katie plays piccolo in Albany’s marching band and bassoon in their concert band, and has played bassoon with various honor bands throughout high school, including Southeastern’s Invitational, LMEA All-State, District, and Parish honor bands. In addition, Katie has played with the Louisiana Youth Orchestras for six years. She participates in the Livingston Parish Talented Arts Programs for Music, Visual Arts, and Theatre. Katie is also involved with The New Octavians community theatre troupe. In her free time, Katie enjoys tending to her 48 houseplants and her pet cat.

As his high school band director for the past three years, I have had the pleasure of watching Martin grow as a student, musician and person. Martin is an outstanding academic student, he is an excellent athlete and he is extremely active in the band program.

Antonio is a trumpet and euphonium player that served as drum major of the marching band for two years. He is kind, caring, and mostly dedicated. Marshall Morgan Star City High School, Star City, AR. Class of 2019. Instrument: Trumpet/French Horn, Director: Brian York. Marshall has been one of the most influential leaders in our band program. He played trumpet as his primary instrument, but when asked, he learned the french horn to fill a need in our ensemble. He was named Drum Major his senior year, and has since gone on to college in pursuit of his Music Education degree.

Joshua has served as principle saxophone of the TVS Wind Ensemble, section leader in the TVS Marching Band and the TVS Chorale. Joshua has dedicated a significant amount of time in our music programs. Josh is a member of the Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Percusion Ensemble and the TVS Chorale. He also has volunteered a considerable amount of time for the TVS Band Boosters. He plans on Enlisting into the Marine Corps after graduating.

Matthew Jude Rakowski Saint Gregory the Great School, Virginia Beach, VA. Class of 2023. Instrument: Trumpet, Director: John Presto. Matthew is the model student; a natural born leader. He was selected 5th in the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association District II and studies with the principal trumpet player, Dr. Carlson, of the Virginia Symphony. He represented our school and area with pride and helped many students excel around him. Shayne is a sophomore band student who has excelled at playing trumpet and mellophone. He is currently serving as my drum major. He recently auditioned and was chosen to be a member of the Seattle Cascades Drum Corp even though he has never participated in marching band since we have a small district without a marching organization. Anna earned the a chair in the Montana All-State Orchestra freshman and sophomore years, and All-State Band Junior and Senior Years. She all earned a chair in the NAfME All-Northwest Band in 2017 and 2019. She earned Superiors at State Solo & Ensemble on both her flute and alto saxophone solos four years in a row. Anna was a section leader the last two years, a patient teacher, and a positive role model.

Julia Schulze St. Margaret's Episcopal School, San Juan Capistrano, CA. Class of 2021. Instrument: Alto Saxophone / Bassoon, Director: Chris Carbajal. Julia began playing the alto saxophone for St. Margaret's Episcopal School even before she was a St. Margaret's student, taking a summer school jazz session between her 6th and 7th grade years. She has played alto saxophone in the Middle School Jazz Band, Concert Band and Coffee House Cabaret Band (commercial music). She has also played in the pit for Children of Eden, The Drowsy Chaperone and Into the Woods. During the 2018-2019 school year, she played the bassoon and alto sax in the Concert Band. In addition to her musical studies, she is involved in academics and tennis.

Cullen Smith Western Heights High School, Oklahoma City, OK. Class of 2019. Instrument: Double bass, Director: Lane Folds . Cullen Smith started out playing clarinet and was an alternate marcher on the football field, but quickly became a valued member and a Double Bass player. In his senior year, Cullen took concurrent music courses such as theory I and jazz ensemble at OCCC. Because of all this experience He became better at his respective instrument and continues to grow each and everyday. He loves his high school band with all his heart and says “Once a jet always a jet”! Cullen plans to go to OCCC and then to SWOSU for music therapy to help the world grow with music.

Andrew Tellefson Spooner High School, Spooner, WI. Class of 2019. Instrument: Tenor sax, flute. Andrew has been playing tenor sax for all of middle school and high school.  He is a member of the concert band, pep band, and marching band in Spooner, Wisconsin.  Each year, he participates at district and state Solo Ensemble, where he consistently earns high ratings.  During his junior year, he taught himself how to play flute, and he switches between his two instruments, depending on the instrumentation of the particular song being played.  He has been an integral part of the band since day one, and he will be sorely missed.

Karena has served as the principal clarinetist of Arvada High School Wind Ensemble. As Drum Major she helped lead the marching band to CBA State for the first time in several years. Through her years as a student, Karena has demonstrated the ability to motivate and direct others outside of her section, as well as within. Karena is an exceptional student who makes band a warm welcoming place for all to share. She is very deserving of the prestigious award because of her positivity, commitment, leadership, and musicianship. She received numerous drum major captions and led the band to multiple first place finishes in marching competition. He was a member of the NY State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All State Wind Ensemble. He has also been chosen to play drum set in a prestigious group, Nassau Suffolk Jazz Ensemble, here on Long Island. Additionally, he has been a consistent member of the Nassau County All County Music Festival each January playing in the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble.

Lauren Raschelle Tucker Baker School, Baker, FL. Class of 2019. Instrument: Bass Clarinet, Director: Stuart Campbell. Lauren served as our Drum Major and Band President her Senior year and field section leader previously. As Drum Major she recieved superior ratings at the Emerald Coast Marching Festival. She earned her place in the Okaloosa County Honor band multiple years and First Chair her Senior Year, where she was also First Chair in the Florida All State Honor Band. She participated and earned First Chair in SEUS Honor Band at Troy University multiple years.

Olivia Tucker is a brilliant and talented student whose dedication and integrity have been an inspiration to our band for years. Anthony Varbaro Mahopac High School, Mahopac, NY. Class of 2019. Instrument: Clarinet, Director: Richard Williams. Anthony Varbaro is a strong musician and helpful leader. Anthony served as the concert master of the Mahopac High School Symphonic Band as well as the drum major of the Marching Band. In addition to his accomplishments as a clarinetist, he also played saxophone in the Jazz Program, tuba in the Marching Band and Concert Band. Anthony set a great example for our younger students and is poised to continue making music for the rest of his life.
