Ms. Adams has participated in KMEA All-State in 2019 and 2018, KMEA District 7 All-District in 2018-2020, and has numerous Distinguished Ratings through Solo and Ensemble, as well as, District Assessment. Annaliese is attending college to pursue Music Education.

Christian Adams Wood Memorial High School, Oakland City, IN. Class of 2020. Instrument: Clarinet, Director: Michael White. Christian is a great clarinet player, who happens to be blind. Throughout HS Christian has excelled and let nothing get in his way.

Elaine Amery Wentzville Liberty High School, Lake Saint Louis, MO. Class of 2020. Instrument: Trombone, Director: Sarita Magno-Parsons. Multi-year Drum Major of the Marching Band. Advanced to State Solo and Small Ensemble multiple years with events on piano and trombone. Was a part of the Jazz Band, and also a key member of the Champion Winter Guard team. Selected as one of the student conductors during the 2019 Music For All Summer Marching Symposium.

LeeAnn Ashworth Brookwood High School, Brookwood, AL. Class of 2020. Instrument: Flute, Director: Eric Ardovino. LeeAnn is an amazing Flute player and made All-state band multiple years in a row. She is also an amazing soloist with great leadership skills. She graduated in the class of 2020.

Ava Asmus Muskegon Catholic Central, Muskegon, MI. Class of 2020. Instrument: Flute, Director: Frances Toothman.

Andrew Auchstetter Marmion Academy: Marmion Rosary Band, Aurora, IL. Class of 2020. Instrument: Clarinet, Director: Mr. René Rosas. Andrew Auchstetter ('20) began playing clarinet at Rotolo Middle School in Batavia, IL. Andrew and his parents made the decision for him to attend Marmion Academy, a Catholic-Benedictine college preparatory high school for young men in Aurora, IL. During his time at Marmion, Andrew performed on tenor saxophone with the Jazz Band and was principal clarinet in the Wind Ensemble his junior and senior years. In January 2020 Andrew performed with the Illinois All-State Honors Band in Peoria for the IMEC. Beginning in his sophomore year, Andrew qualified for three consecutive years to perform at the WSMA State Level Solo and Ensemble Festival where he earned 1st division ratings each year. He will attend the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University as a clarinet major in the studio of Professor Howard Klug.

Megan Bachman Southwestern CUSD, Brighton, IL. Class of 2020. Instrument: Flute, Director: Lacy Wray. While in Southwestern Piasa Bird Band, Megan has been selected into the ILMEA District Band both her Junior and Senior year. She has attended multiple events at SIUE including Bi-State Band Festival and Flute Day. She has also consistently received 1s at IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contests. Megan's future plans will be to attend Murray State University in KY where she will be majoring in Art Education and continuing to play her flute in the MSU Marching Band.

Stephany was the section leader for four years and helped maintain musical excellence in the percussion section. She is currently pursuing a Nursing degree at Saint Xavier University while still performing in the Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble.

Samantha Barton Thornapple Kellogg High School, Middleville, MI. Class of 2020. Instrument: Trumpet, Director: Ray Rickert. Samantha is an outstanding young player who is constantly seeking to improve. She participated in the Meyer Music Honors Orchestra in November of 2019. Samantha will study genetics at Purdue University where she hopes to be a member of the jazz and marching bands.

Matthew Bartosch Herculaneum High School, Herculaneum, MO. Class of 2020. Instrument: French Horn, Director: Doug Smelser. Matthew Bartosch french horn player in concert band and trumpet in the jazz band. Member of a number of honor bands and honor ratings at festivals.Plans on going to Missouri University of Science and Technology.

She participated in many honor bands and was a talented flute player who closed her high school career with an amazing solo in Carnegie hall.

Emma Becker Granite Bay High School, Granite Bay, CA. Class of 2020. Instrument: Clarinet/Bass Clarinet, Director: Lynn Lewis. Emma Becker was an amazing musician who participated in the band for all four years. She was a talented member of the CMEA Capitol Section honor band, the NCBA Northern california honor band and the California All State Honor bands. Emma closed her 4 years at Granite bay with a memorable performance in Carnegie hall March 10, 2020.

Clare has played trumpet for 8 years, and has been a solid participant both in and out of the music room. She's participated in her church brass choir for a couple of years, and never hesitates to gently lead. She plans to study music as a minor in college.

Ryan Biller Manistee High School, Manistee, MI. Class of 2020. Instrument: Alto Saxophone, Director: Andrea Mack. Ryan is an outstanding leader and member of the Manistee HS Marching, Jazz, and Symphonic Bands for the last four years. He has been an impressive drum major and student leader and worked diligently to help the entire band program improve by his many projects. He successfully reorganized our music library and recruited and helped supervised student workers for the many band events we have hosted. He is a fine player and has significantly improved his playing and helped others as well. He has performed successfully in multiple events at District and State Solo and Ensemble Festivals. and performed several solos with the bands at several performances including the Michigan Music Conference. He plans on attending Central Michigan University and studying Instrumental Music Education.

Max's contributions as clarinetist in concert band and pianist in jazz band, while notable, are only a piece of what he has brought to the band program. Aiden Blankenship is an exceptional musician, student, and human being. He became our school's first drum major as we recently launched our program in 2019. Nathan Bos Westlake High School, Saratoga Springs, UT. Class of 2020. Instrument: Tuba, Director: Randy Brady. Nathan has been and exceptional example of musicianship, dedication, leadership, positivity, and hard work during his time in the Westlake band program. He plans to continue studying music in college.

Amanda Botto Gray's Creek High School Band, Hope Mills, NC. Class of 2020. Instrument: Clarinet, Director: Thomas Stovall. Amanda served as the 2019-2020 Gray's Creek High School Drum Major. She also excelled on her clarinet in concert band where she placed into All County and All District Band. Her leadership abilities among her peers and her work ethic made her uniquely qualified to receive this award. She plans to major in music education upon graduation.

He participated in all aspects of the MVHS band program and was accepted into all of New Hampshire's All State ensembles his senior year (Chamber All State, Jazz All State, and All State Band).

Joel is a very driven and talented euphonium player who has gone on to study at CSU Northridge as well as marching for Pacific Crest, The Santa Clara Vanguard, and the Blue Devils.

Caleb Bredemeier Lewiston Consolidated School, Lewsiton, NE. Class of 2020. Instrument: Percussion , Director: Megan Voorhis. Caleb is a leader in his graduating class as well as in the band. He shows great dedication and passion within the arts.

Keith Brent Clear Creek High School, Evergreen, CO. Class of 2020. Instrument: Clarinet, Director: Madeleine Cort. Keith is an outstanding musician in the Clear Creek High School Band. In his years with the ensemble he has played principal clarinet, lead tenor saxophone in jazz band, multiple instruments in the pit orchestra for the musical, learned piano, served as a leader within the ensemble, and was always willing to do more for the good of the whole. Keith also auditioned and was accepted into the 2020 Colorado All State Band and performed for several years in the West Metro Honor Band.

Ainsley Brown Maypearl High School, Maypearl, TX. Class of 2020. Instrument: Trumpet, Director: Dallas Dees. Ainsley Brown was a drum major her senior year. She was a regular competitor as a soloist in the band in Solo-Ensemble competition. Ainsley restarted the Winterguard, writing the show and teaching the members her senior year. She was also a 3 year member of the TWU Pioneer Honor Band.

Chrysta Bruns West Hancock High School, Britt, IA. Class of 2020. Instrument: Contra Alto Clarinet, Director: Jennifer Rosin. Chrysta has been a leader in our band program all throughout high school, participating in concert, marching, pep, and jazz band. She has been a 2 year All State Band member and has participated in multiple honor bands throughout her high school career.

Brianna Bryant Fayette Academy, Somervfille, TN. Class of 2020. Instrument: Trumpet, Director: Hunter Farley. Brianna is not only a fantastic player and musician, but one of the greatest leaders the program has had. She served as field commander for the Fayette Academy Marching Band for two years and won many awards during the marching season. She was also the principal trumpet and leader for the Fayette Academy Wind Ensemble which received straight 1's in the regional concert festival. The first time the school has done this since 2012. With her great leadership and musicianship, the marching band has also been invited to the 2021 Independence Day Parade for the first time in school history.

Megan Burghdorf Middletown Area High School, Middletown, PA. Class of 2020. Instrument: Trumpet, Director: Samuel K Fisher. Megan participated in NAfME All National Concert Band twice, All East Orchestra once, and PMEA All State ensembles three times. She was in Region Band and Orchestra three years, District Orchestra 3 years, and District Band 6 years. She was a frequent soloist within our band program, and served as Drum Major during her senior year.

Jeremy Cain Trinity High School Band, Trinity, NC. Class of 2020. Instrument: Trumpet, Director: Joshua Dickens. Jeremy is highly devoted, loyal and respectful of our Band program. He has been for 5 years now. The music has touched his soul in a deep way. He love music for music's sake. That is why he is receiving this award.

Damyenn Cardenas Pueblo Central High School, Pueblo, CO. Class of 2020. Instrument: Tuba, Director: Carolyn Morrison. Damyenn was a fearless drum major this year. His biggest strength is that he is the heart of our band. He is always looking out and caring for others, he always puts the needs of others before his own. He is an outstanding leader, and was voted for this award by both students and staff of the Central Marching Band.

Cole Carney Chaparral High School, Scottsdale, AZ. Class of 2020. Instrument: Alto Saxophone, Director: Jennifer Mireau. Wind Ensemble for four years. Participated in Pit Orchestra and Solo & Ensemble Festival. All-Region Honor Band Senior Year.

Elizabeth Carpenter Archbishop John Carroll High School, Radnor, PA. Class of 2020. Instrument: Flute/Piccolo, Director: Zach Larimer. Liz was an exceptional flute and piccolo player and contributed selflessly to the Band program. She was involved in almost every ensemble offered and contributed so much to the overall sound of the Band.

William Robert Carpenter Winter Park High School, Winter Park, FL. Class of 2020. Instrument: Tuba , Director: Michael Clemente. William Carpenter was an outstanding member of the Winter Park High School band including the Marching Band and Wind Symphony. Hie earned positions in the All State and All County Bands and superior ratings for solo tuba solos at MPA.

Dylan Carter Pinnacle Charter High School, Thornton, CO. Class of 2020. Instrument: Bass Guitar/Euphonium/Tuba, Director: ZACH GARCIA. Dylan Carter will be going to college to pursue music professionally on his instrument of choice, the bass guitar. Should this not pan out (as music is obviously not the most reliable career path for steady work), he will also have a backup plan in the form of computer science. Regardless of the work, Dylan will always maintain a love of music and doesn't see himself ever giving up on playing.

His hard work and strong musical background have helped develop him into a strong piano player and saxophonist. Raul is also a natural student leader and kind person to work with.

Tiffany is one of the most exceptional musicians I have encountered in my teaching career. She has one multiple concerto competitions, and is a 4-year all state band/orchestra member.

Evan Christensen Mahtomedi High School, Mahtomedi, MN. Class of 2020. Instrument: Trumpet, Director: Laura A. Goucher. Evan is a talented trumpet player who is highly committed to the band program. He was always reliable at pep band, in honor bands and as a leader in his ensembles. 

Karrah Christensen South Sumter High School Music Department, Bushnell, FL. Class of 2020. Instrument: Flute, Director: Pete Perrone. Karrah was an exceptional student who was always ready to help anyone in need. Earned Superior at district level and state level S&E in Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA). She also earned superiors in district and state level S&E in Florida Vocal Association as well. Karrah was one of only a handful of students who earned a place in the Florida Music Educators (FMEA) All-State Reading Chorus all 4 years of high school. She has also been an All-State participant every year since 5th grade whether it was singing or playing flute. Karrah is currently pursuing a degree in Music Education at the University of Florida.

Evan Cohagan Argos Jr Sr High School, Argos, IN. Class of 2020. Instrument: Euphonium , Director: Austin Mills. Evan has been a dedicated musician during my time here at Argos. Evan has participated in Concert band, Pep band, Marching Band, and Jazz band while also competing at Solo and Ensemble competition each year. He has shown himself to be an outstanding leader and is quick to keep his peers going with a joke or two. He has been great to have in the classroom and on the stage.

Trescege has been an integral leader in our program the entire time she has been at Foster High School. Jacob is one of the most intelligent, cerebral, and innovative students the Truckee HS music department has ever known.. If there is a problem. He has a solution. If the band wants to perform a song, but there is no music available he will arrange it. Jacob brought a high level of musicianship that precipitated to all other students in his section and throughout the band. His daily approach to rehearsal was top notch and he will leave a lasting impression on those students that had the luxury of playing alongside him.

In high school he was a member of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Metro Atlanta Wind Ensemble. In addition, Darren was a member of the GMEA All-State Band all four years of high school, the GMEA Honor Band for five consecutive years, and a participant in the UGA JanFest for two years. What she did everyday was, never forget her instrument, was always prepared for playing tests. She was the Band Captain, Womens Choir Director, Gay Mens Choir guest conductor, Broward Symphonic Band, Student conductor for the Miami Symphony Orch. She was instrumental in the development of creation of the high school music program. Her alocades in band is too much to mention. I can tell you that when both directors we absent, we were confident that the band program was in good hands. I never had a student like her, and so proud to have her as a student and my friend.

Reagan Hunger Overton ISD, Overton, TX. Class of 2020. Instrument: Trumpet, Director: Lynette Hunger. Reagan has been very instrumental in bringing the band up to the level it is now. He has been very active in all aspects of band while being very active in other areas of school and having a high grade point average. Reagan has auditioned for All Region every year and has made the band twice. He has auditioned for Solo and Ensemble every year advancing to state 3 times. He has earned a 2nd division medal on a solo and has earned a 1st division and 2nd division medal on the State Theory test. He has served as Drum Major for 2 years and Chaplain all the years in high school band. He also participated in Brass Day at the local junior college and High School Day at the local junior college. Reagan has been accepted to Texas A & M University where he will be in the Fightin Texas Aggie Band and concert band. He plans on majoring in business and minoring in music.

Anthony Alfred Lira Douglas MacArthur High School, San Antonio, TX. Class of 2020. Instrument: Trumpet, Director: Evan Berry. Alfred Lira (known by the directors and friends simply as "Anthony") was a 3-time Texas All-State musician, placed third in the entire state of Texas in the All-State top orchestra as a senior, was the Brass-Captain as a junior, a drum major and featured soloist as a senior, member of the Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps, four-year member and soloist for the top wind-ensemble at MacArthur, and will be pursuing a career in music as a music education major at Texas Tech University. Anthony is the most influential leader for the MacArthur Band Program of this generation, but his success and accolades are only possible because of his relentless work ethic and character. His twin brother, Aaron Lira, is the other recipient for this special award this year, as it is impossible to decide between the two.

He was a marching band soloist, the principal trombonist in the KMEA District Nine Honor Band, and attended the Appalachia Institute of Music Summer Arts Academy.

Richard Posey Taft Union High School, Taft, CA. Class of 2020. Instrument: Tuba, Piano, Drums, Director: Amanda Posey. Richard was in the Kern County honor band from 6th-12th grade. He set a new standard for tuba players in the county. Ricky went on to Fresno State as a chemistry major.

Larissa Pothoven Rock Island High School, Rock Island, IL. Class of 2020. Instrument: Flute, Director: Peter Carlin. Larissa is a section leader in both marching and symphonic band, as well as an All-State flute player.

Daniel Prater Overton High School Band, Overton, TX. Class of 2020. Instrument: Clarinet, Director: Lynette Hunger. Daniel has been an amazing part of our band. He started band late coming in from a private school which did not have a band. However, he caught on very quickly. He auditioned for All Region for 4 years, making the band all 4 years. He advanced to Area his sophomore, junior, and senior years and made the All State band his last 2 years. He went to Solo and Ensemble 4 years earning and advanced to state all 4 years. He earned a 2nd division medal on his solo and a 1st division medal on his solo and a 1st division medal on an ensemble. He has also earned 3 medals on state theory. He has served as one of the drum majors this last year. Daniel has been accepted to Stephen F. Austin State University where he will major in music.

This student completed three years of middle school band and four years of high school band. This student has been in the top ensemble at Timber Creek for multiple years and has advanced to the Area Audition on multiple occasions.

Xavier Pyles has been a staple of the CHS band program throughout his tenure here. He has been a featured soloist in two marching band shows, and many concerts. While at St. Philip Catholic Central, Adam played percussion and piano and he taught himself to play the accordion. Adam was is an extremely dedicated and helpful person, who is always willing to volunteer and help with band projects.

Sydney Staines Central Magnet School, Murfreesboro, TN. Class of 2020. Instrument: Clarinet, Director: John B. Mears. Multiple honor band appearances, section leader of the Wind Ensemble, as well as numerous community outreach endeavors to promote music in Rutherford County are only a few of the reasons for recognizing this fantastic young musician. Sydney also was instrumental in the implementation of a new organization focused on providing private lesson instruction for the youngest players in the school band, and led the strongest clarinet section in the school's history.

She was active in all of our performance ensembles in her time here, and even pursued performance opportunities outside of school. Josephine was an advanced flute student even as an entering freshman to the high school program. Her musical skills took her to All-Region where she eventually became 1st chair in the Symphonic Band. She placed in the Area Band, and excelled in UIL Solo & Ensemble by advancing to UIL State two years in a row. She was the DHS Flute Section Leader and in addition an outstanding academic student throughout high school!

Andrew Tessitore Cranford High School, Cranford, NJ. Class of 2020. Instrument: Flute, Director: Daniel Chernosky. A frequent soloist, Andrew sat first chair flute and was section leader junior and senior year. In addition, he was Drum Major during his senior year of high school.

Xian Thao University Preparatory Academy, San Jose, CA. Class of 2020. Instrument: trumpet and clarinet, Director: Jemal Ramirez. Xian came to our band program with quite a bit of experience with music in church. She played the clarinet as a 7th grader in our intermediate band. She was own best clarinet player. The summer before her freshman year, she decided that she wanted to switch to the trumpet. Right from day one as a 9th grader, Xian sounded great on the trumpet. She earned the John Philip Sousa award as a junior. It was the only year I gave the band a vote on who should win this award.
