Samantha Ackley Triton Central High School, Fairland, IN. Class of 2021. Instrument: French Horn/Clarinet, Director: Joey Shepherd. Samantha was an exemplary member of the Triton Central Band and Winter Guard programs.

Adelaide Adams Cameron High School, Cameron, WI. Class of 2021. Instrument: Saxophone, Director: Tyler Halverson. Adelaide has been a leader in our saxophone section throughout her high school career. She has been a versatile player in the section, playing soprano, alto, tenor, and bari throughout her time in our program. She also has served as a student aide in our department and helped to mentor middle school musicians. 

Nathan Adams Manhattan Christian School, Churchill, MT. Class of 2023. Instrument: Trumpet, Director: Daniel Chausse. Nathan has tremendous character and leadership for his age. He is an outgoing leader and dedicated musician, and has placed highly in Music Festivals and All-State competitions. It is a joy to teach him.

Gyles Adderley Middletown Area High School, Middletown, PA. Class of 2021. Instrument: Percussion, Director: Samuel K. Fisher. Gyles performed as a percussionist in the marching band and concert band. He served as President during his senior year.

Kate Agee Lipscomb Academy, Nashville, TN. Class of 2023. Instrument: Flute, Director: Noel Hicks. Kate is an exemplary band student. She works hard, inspires her peers, and demonstrates musical excellence. There is no one more deserving for this honor.

Rianne Aguilar Newbury Park Adventist Academy, Newbury Park, CA. Class of 2021. Instrument: Flute, Director: Suny Lopez. Rianne Aguilar is from Ventura, CA.

Kali Ahrens Vista Ridge High School, Colorado Springs, CO. Class of 2021. Instrument: Trombone, Director: Ethan Hall. Talent, passion, and hard work have all shown throughout Kali's high school career. She began in freshman Concert Band, but by her senior year was sitting as Principal Trombone in Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band, in addition to being Low Brass Captain for Marching Band. Multi-talented, Kali also was a member of VR's award-winning Show Choir.

Yano Aliffi Decatur High School, Decatur, GA. Class of 2021. Instrument: Percussion, Director: Tyler Ehrlich. Yano Aliffi is an extremely hard working musician from Decatur (Ga.) High School. He is a well-rounded percussionist, and a kind and warm young man.

Ashlynn Anders South Sumter High School, Bushnell, FL. Class of 2021. Instrument: Saxophone, Director: Pete Perrone. As a freshman Ashlynn began to show her talent as a sax player through her efforts on the marching field and in solo and ensemble leading a saxophone quartet to SUPERIOR rating. Since then she has earned 2 solo SUPERIORS and was a member of Percussion Ensemble earning 2 SUPERIOR ratings. Ashlynn has been part of the bands Leadership Team since sophomore year serving 2 years as section leader and as Drum Major senior year. she has proven to thoroughly fulfil all the qualities that earned her the JPS Award!

Scott Andreae Sevastopol School, Sturgeon Bay, WI. Class of 2021. Instrument: Alto Saxophone, Director: Tanya Hasenjager. Scott plays the alto saxophone in the band and jazz band. He has also been a Louis Armstrong award winner as well.

Tania Andrews Edgewood High School Band, Edgewood, TX. Class of 2021. Instrument: Clarinet, Director: Bennett Potter. Tania was an excellent leader in the clarinet section during high school. She was a very talented player in band, playing the clarinet, and tenor sax. She also served as assistant drum major her senior year, and volunteered to help younger students learn the clarinet. She was a two time qualifier for state solo and ensemble and an All-Area clarinetist in Texas.

Chanel Antoshin South Elgin High School, South Elgin, IL. Class of 2021. Instrument: Flute, Director: Kurt Dobbeck. Chanel has played flute since fourth grade. She has always had a passion for music. In HS, she took on many rolls involving music, including principal of the wind ensemble, section leader, and drum major. She also partook in EYSO, where she was denoted YA Concerto Competition Winner (2020). She now attends NIU for music education.

Marshall Apopot Douglas MacArthur High School, San Antonio, TX. Class of 2021. Instrument: Alto Saxophone, Director: Evan Berry. Marshall had the opportunity to quit band and stick with athletics, but instead proved you can participate in multiple activities as a 2 year drum major, varsity tennis participant, summa cum laude graduate, and role model for all students in the program. He is the spirit of the MacArthur Band.

Nathan Bartley Ascension Academy, Amarillo, TX. Class of 2021. Instrument: Bass Trombone, Director: Mykel Byersmith. Nathan Bartley has been a member of the Ascension Academy Band throughout Middle School and High School. He has made multiple All-Region Bands, and he was also a member of the Amarillo Youth Orchestra. He will be attending the University of Texas at Dallas after graduation.

Lorelei excels on bass clarinet in symphonic band while playing lead alto sax in jazz ensemble and serving as drum major for the marching band. Landon Boone Station Camp High School, Gallatin, TN. Class of 2021. Instrument: Oboe, Horn, Piano, Guitar, etc., Director: Jim Reed. Landon Boone served as drum major for the Station Camp Thundering Herd in 2019 & 2020, while also being an active member of the Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and Indoor Drumline. The band recently premiered his composition, Nova, on their 2021 Spring Concert. His talent and ability to play just about any instrument with quality has provided amazing contributions to the band program during his time here.

Josephine Bossenberger Bullock Creek High School, Midland, MI. Class of 2021. Instrument: Flute, Director: Josephine Bossenberger. Kaylee Monville was drum major, nominated for outstanding performances by MSBOA, played flute and baritone sax through her senior year. She was very dedicated and will be a music major intending to become a band director in the future.

Michael is a very talented percussionist and was dedicated to our band program, having been a key band member all four years at Dominican. He was a student leader when it came to playing with our drum line and with the pep band as well.

Rylee Buchman Chetek-Weyerhaeuser High School, Chetek, WI. Class of 2021. Instrument: Percussion, Director: Amanda Ogren. Rylee showed her perservence, dedication and willingness to work and achieve at all odds. Being struck with a rare medical condition during her senior year that left her struggling to ues her right hand, she immediately figured out a way to still participate fully in band.

Ryan is an outstanding student that performs in all of the musical ensembles at Granville High School including the symphonic band, marching band, jazz band, steel band, and guest performances with the choirs and orchestras. After studying privately and diligently for many years, he has been an incredible leader and has been accepted to attend Ohio University to major in music composition.

She has been a part of the marching and concert bands throughout high school. Chloe played tenor drums for marching band and snare drum, among others, for concert band. Her future plans are to attend Wilkes Community College to major in School Counseling.

Jorge Caraccioli has been an outstanding band student here in Calallen ISD. He has served our on leadership team as Field Commander. Jorge is a Texas All-Stater on Euphonuim and he will be marching his 3rd year with Genesis Drum & Bugle Corps.

Benjamin Carlile Bellville High School, Bellville, TX. Class of 2021. Instrument: French Horn, Director: Kenneth Peters. Benjamin is a fantastic performer, musician, and student. He does everything to the best of his ability and just enjoys practicing, performing and pushing those around him to be better.

Marissa Cartwright Wild Rose High School, Wild Rose, WI. Class of 2021. Instrument: Flute, Director: Mikayla Mixdorf. Marissa is an outstanding person, leader, and musician. I can rely on her for anything and everything as she is always willing to go above and beyond. She is adored by her peers as she is kind, helpful, funny, and smart. She will be greatly missed as she graduates, but she has left her mark here at Wild Rose in the Music Department, and in the hearts of her classmates.

Claudio Castellanos Horizon High School, Scottsdale, AZ. Class of 2022. Instrument: Percussion, Director: Band Test. I have depended on Claudio a ton this year to help with the challenges we have all faced. They even taught a few classes while I was out sick for a couple weeks. This student came in after school and during breaks while we were online to practice, always striving to get better. During the concert Claudio played on every band piece, played percussion for orchestra, solo’d in jazz band, played on most percussion ensemble pieces and was a leader for indoor percussion. He never complained and even when I would push him he kept that high standard. He has never run from any challenge I have put in front of him. I believe this student has shown superior leadership qualities, was always dependable, and extremely loyal.

Shayanne Lynn Castro Savage High School, Savage, MT. Class of 2021. Instrument: Clarinet , Director: Nate Louisignau. Shayanne has been involved in multiple ensembles throughout her time in school. Her involvement includes: Savage High School Band, Savage High School Choir, Savage Warrior Pep Band, SHS Warrior Drumline and she has participated in community choir as well. Shayanne has been selected for her District 11 Honor Band for three years and District 11 Honor Choir for one. She has also received superior ratings at the Montana State Solo & Ensemble Festival all four years of high school in clarinet solo, vocal solo and instrumental ensemble with other members of her class. Shayanne plans to pursue a degree in music performencr or music education and has worked very hard to be the very best student musician she can be. I am extremely proud to nominate her for this year’s John Philip Sousa Award!

He has been a leader in the Band by always being prepared, leading the group and challenging himself musically.

Avery has been in band since 5th grade, always going out of his way to learn different instruments & writing compositions for various ensembles. He is going on for a degree in Computer Science and a minor in music.

Logan Combs F.J. Reitz High School, Evansville, IN. Class of 2021. Instrument: Trombone, Percussion, & Drum Major, Director: Alex Grimm. Logan love for his fellow band member made this band better throughout his time at Reitz. He was able to share that not only as a trombonist, but as a drum major for three years. He always strives to be the very best at whatever he works at, whether that be choir, trombone, percussion, and anything else he puts his mind to!

Crouse, one of the founding members of our band program, was instrumental in the shaping of our percussion section and overall band program at Cherokee Bluff High School. During his time, served as Percussion Captain and helped establish routines and procedures that have remained today. Mr. Crouse is a Music Education student at Young Harris College in North Georgia.

Zuleika Cruz University Preparatory Academy, San Jose, CA. Class of 2021. Instrument: Bass Clarinet and Bb Clarinet, Director: Jemal Ramirez. Zuleika Cruz started in beginning band in 7th grade at UPA. She moved up the ranks quietly but steadily. During her junior and senior year, she managed to maintain her grades at our rigorous school that urges our students to take several AP classes. While taking this on plus band, she also had to maintain while having the Corona virus zoom world to figure out (for 12 months online). Zuleika I believe will be quite successful in the future, she is not a quitter.

Hannah Doyle distinguished herself through outstanding performance and leadership within the Pride Band Program. Hannah is a friend to everyone and helps all students in need. She has enlisted in the US Army to become a linguist.

Noah has played trombone for seven years, having studied privately under Bob Lewis and Zach Opitz. In high school, he was a member of the concert band (principal), marching band (brass captain and drum major), brass ensemble, and jazz ensemble. He was a member of Tri-M, has participated in honor bands including UGA JanFest and GYSO Jazz Ensemble, and has played lead roles in musical theater. He also enjoys serving with his local church orchestra. He is a talented trombonist with a flair for jazz improvisation and plans to participate in the jazz program at Kennesaw State University.

Zachary Fong Eno River Academy, Hillsborough, NC. Class of 2021. Instrument: Tenor Sax/Piano, Director: Katherine Woodrum. I highly recommend Zachary Fong for the John Philip Sousa Award. I have been Zach’s band and jazz band director for the past four years, where he has served as the leader in our tenor sax section, and more recently, as our jazz pianist. From being an outstanding student, musician and performer at the start, Zach has grown into a serious musician both inside and outside of the classroom. He is a truly versatile musician, and in the past two years, has become a budding composer. This past year, as a result of remote learning, Zach has become proficient with Noteflight and Soundtrap software while writing, recording and mixing music.

After the Covid lock down, Presley organized outside performances and rehearsals for a student band and was able to keep the band practing and performing in spite of ever changing regulations. Presley is a compeitive swimmer and excceptional student. After high school, Presley attended UC Santa Cruz as a neurology major.

Andrew Glotzbach has been a member of the LMC Band for eight years. He plays piano and trumpet. He is a two time state runner up in the NFMC's Junior Composer's Composition Competition, a two time Northeastern Regional Winner and National Finalist. Andrew will attend the St. John Vianney Seminary.

David Godfrey Southern Lee High School, Sanford, NC. Class of 2021. Instrument: Trombone, Director: Angela D. Matthews. David is an exemplary trombone player and student leader. He was the drum major for the marching band during the COVID season, and worked hard to keep the band together in spite of the difficult circumstances. David is compassionate and caring and is a shoulder to lean on for anyone who needs it. David knows his music and marching and volunteers beyond school hours to make the band the best it can be. This is why David is our 2021 Sousa Award winner.

Thomas was an active member of the Winter Percussion program and is a member of the Bronze Medalist State Finals group. He was selected as a member of the Kentucky Ambassadors of Music Choral trip to Europe in 2020, a member of the 2021 ICDA All-State Honor Choir, and an active member in Marching Band and various instrumental ensembles on and off campus. These ensembles include the handbell choir at his church, Winter Percussion ensembles, and Solo and Ensemble groups. He was selected as Cymbal Section leader in the band program and Bass Section leader in the Chamber Choir. Thomas is attending the University of Indianapolis where he was named a Presidential Scholar and continues to be active in the music department.

Aubrie Maund has been a leader since the day she arrived on Bay High's campus, whether she had the title or not. She is one of the most dedicated, passionate student musicians that I have known. Julianna Menna participated in our marching band from grades 7-12, serving as a drum major her last two years. She expanded her abilities as a member of the choir program participating in several choirs, and was president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Alex Turner Belgrade High School, Belgrade, MT. Class of 2021. Instrument: Trombone/Euphonium, Director: Andrew Miller. Alex is a splendid multi-instrumentalist. He is proficient in all low brass, and even some high brass and saxophones! Alex embodies all that it means to be in band.

Alexandra Valdovinos East Henderson High School, East Flat Rock, NC. Class of 2021. Instrument: Flute, Director: Colton D. Stewart. Alexandra Valdovinos was our drum major for the 2020-2021 school year. She is one of the most talented students that I have taught and leads through serving others. She is a positive light in a dark world. This student has true passion for the arts and will accomplish great things in her life.

Brandon Vaughn Franklin High School, Franklin, TN. Class of 2021. Instrument: Trumpet, Director: Briana Vogt. Brandon is a bright young student who excels musically with his trumpet. Brandon helped to lead the band through a tumultuous year of a global pandemic and helped to remind us teachers why we teach.

Louis Veillion Holy Cross School, New Orleans, LA. Class of 2021. Instrument: Trumpet, Director: Cameron Mayfield. Louis has demonstrated exemplary leadership and mentor capabilities over his 5 years in the Tiger Band. His help with the Primary School Band has created a legacy that will not be forgotten.

Liberty Vickery Skyview High School, Billings, MT. Class of 2021. Instrument: Bassoon, Director: Aaron Schendel. Libby has been a pro all four years of high school. Taking private lessons, mentoring new students, and seeking out opportunities to make a difference in our community.

Amy Villalobos Bloomington High School, Bloomington, CA. Class of 2021. Instrument: Tuba/Flute, Director: Victor Torres. Any is an outstanding musician that played flute for many years and had switched to tuba during her sophomore year. She then auditioned and made the San Bernardino County Honor Band on Tuba. Along with being an awesome musician, she is also an outstanding student and friend to her peers.

Minson Vo George Bush High School, Richmond, TX. Class of 2021. Instrument: Euphonium, Director: Dr. John Wilkerson. Minson is the first student in GBHS History to make the TMEA ALL-STATE. He did it twice. He is a natural leader and is very loyal to the band program.

Isabella R. Wade Kinder High School, Kinder, LA. Class of 2021. Instrument: Alto Saxophone , Director: Brandon Lafleur . Isabella Wade has been an exceptional musician and leader of the KHS Band of Gold since 7th grade. She has served as a section leader and woodwind captain, and was the Drum Major during her junior and senior year. She was 4th chair in the 2019 District V Buccaneer Honor Band and has competed at several area marching/concert festivals. Isabella will attend McNeese State University in the fall of 2021 as a member of the Pride of McNeese marching band.

Kate consistently models excellence, musicianship, enthusiasm, and dedication to others through her ability to care for individuals in the band, find common ground in crisis, and lead by example in achievement and service. Kate is passionate about servant leadership and has genuinely redefined the standards for the student leaders that follow her in our band program. The Clinton Band program has been shepherded into a new era because of Kate's leadership, commitment, and vision for the band program.

His influences reached out across our program taking major roles in leadership and on the field responsibility. Kailee Welker is a talented trumpet player, singer, and guitarist from Clayton, Oklahoma. She has participated in band since elementary and has participated in both district and state band contests. She is an active musician in her school and her community.

Louisa Wren Whalen South Brunswick High School, Southport, NC. Class of 2021. Instrument: Clarinet/ Alto Saxophone, Director: Michael Palmer. Accomplishments include...All County and All District Selection all 4 years; Eligible for NC Honors Auditions 3 years; Selected for multiple honor bands at UNCW, UNCP, Univ. of South Carolina; Selected in 2020 for NC Governor's School and Juilliard Summer Winds; 2021 Semper Fi Award Winner. She also performed in numerous community ensembles. Wren was accepted to UNCG to double major in music education and performance. As decorated as she was as a performer, Wren was an even better person- earning massive respect from staff, parents, and peers alike for her grace, positivity and work ethic.

Therese Marie Wisniewski St. Mary Cathedral School, Gaylord, MI. Class of 2021. Instrument: Trumpet, Director: Rita A. LaVictoire. Therese Wisniewski was one of the most outstanding musicians I have had in my long career as a band director. She played the trumpet, piano, and violin. She was selected for Michigan's All State Band for 5 years and was first chair her junior and senior year. She completed all three proficiencies for State Solo and Ensemble on the trumpet and piano even through out Covid 19. She is continuing on the trumpet at Western Michigan University.

Reitz High School. I will be attending Murray State University in the fall of 2021 to pursue a degree in Music Performance and a career of playing in pit orchestras. I have participated in many ensembles including but not limited to: the River Brass Band, the River Brass Youth Band, the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, the Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, the EVSC Honors Band, the EVSC Honors Jazz Band, the Bokeh Big Band, the F.J. She has chaired high in honor bands in both trumpet and French horn, and also plays the flute. She has a gift for linguistics which she will pursue further in college and used this ability on a short-term mission trip to Micronesia.

Enjia "Bill" Zhang came to my school as a sophomore and quickly asserted himself as one of the best overall concert percussionists I have seen in my time. He will be attending the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University with a focus in Music Performance - Percussion.
